The Dallas County Sexual Assault Coalition is proud to present the first annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® Event on October 1st in Uptown Dallas. The mission of this walk is to engage men in being part of the solution to ending sexual violence.
A Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® Event is a playful opportunity for men to raise awareness in their community about the serious causes, effects and remediations to sexual violence. There is an old saying: "You can't really understand another person's experience until you've walked a mile in their shoes." Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® asks men to literally walk one mile in women's high-heeled shoes. It's not easy walking in these shoes, but it is a fun and entertaining way to deliver the important message that rape affects us all.
Sexual violence does not just affect women. It affects the men who care about them, their families, their friends, their coworkers, and their communities. Sexual violence is epidemic. Every two minutes someone in America is raped. In Texas, one in five women is a victim of sexual assault. That means someone you know, someone you care about, has been or may become the victim of sexual violence. It may be your mother, your sister, your friend, your girlfriend, your wife, your coworker, or your daughter.
The walk will benefit the Dallas County Sexual Assault Coalition (DCSAC). DCSAC members include law enforcement, the District Attorney's Office, medical and mental health agencies and many area non-profit agencies providing victim services. In 2001, DCSAC was established to provide a forum to assess, explore, and recommend better outcomes for victims/survivors of sexual violence. There are two primary objectives: 1) To improve the provision of services to victims of sexual assault in Dallas County by providing thorough efficient, sensitive, and interdisciplinary services, and 2) To ensure meaningful community collaboration in the services provided to victims of sexual assault and a forum of support for the organizations, professionals, and first-responders providing services. DCSAC is committed to meeting the diverse needs of sexual assault victims.

What to Bring: We encourage walkers to bring water bottles, sign to carry while they walk and dress alike if part of a team. This is a great opportunity to show the community that your business is taking a stand against sexual violence.
